BHE News & Annoucements

What is the BHE Hero Award?

In partnership with our building’s equity team, we’ve connected Livingston’s 100%s to a new and exciting “Hero Award.” At our community meetings, we introduce students to the importance of the 100%s and highlight one area at a time. Our fifth-grade student leaders then partner with our media specialist to learn how to teach these ideas to our younger students. During their lessons, our student leaders read a selected book and guide an activity that reinforces the focus for that month.Throughout each school day, we encourage our Bobcats to show these characteristics, and the language of the 100%s becomes part of our daily conversations. Our teachers then select one student from each classroom who exemplifies the focus, and we celebrate them at our community meetings by sharing their names, pictures, and the actions that earned them the Hero Award.

Dear Burnet Hill Families,

I hope everyone is well and staying warm. January went quickly and we are happy to welcome February next week. We have a busy month ahead at BH! Here are a few updates for the next few weeks:

  • World Read Aloud Day is Wednesday, February 4.  The best way to celebrate this day is to read a story to someone. I will be visiting some classes at BH on this day to read to our students, and I encourage our families to read a story aloud at home, too.
  • We will celebrate the Lunar New Year with a special assembly on Wednesday, February 4. Thank you to our HSA for providing this cultural event for our students.
  • Global School Play Day is observed annually in February and this year it will be held on Thursday, February 5. This day promotes the importance of unstructured, regular play for children. Please read the attached for more information about how Burnet Hill will participate in this day: Global Day of Play
  • Our 100th day of school is Friday, February 6! To celebrate, students will participate in fun activities organized by our Math interventionists! Thank you!
  • TREP$ has begun for our fifth grade students. We look forward to all of the amazing goods and services they will create and the Marketplace in March where everything will be sold.
  • The Sweetheart Dance πŸ’–is scheduled for Thursday evening, February 12! Our HSA is planning a wonderful event for our families.
  • School will be closed the week of February 16 for Mid-winter recess.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to our main office.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Dr. Barreto

  • Dismissal Time 2:42 p.m.– Children are dismissed through the front door and the blacktop doors. Kindergarten children are released a few minutes early through their own doors to avoid the “big kid” crowd.

    • IF THERE IS A CHANGE IN DISMISSAL PROCEDURES FOR YOUR CHILD, please add to your genesis portal under 'pick up release'.

    • Grades K-3 will dismiss from the doors in the back on the blacktop.

Driving & Parking at School:

  • Drive slowly!! The speed limit around the school is 25 mph.  The speed limit on school grounds is 5 mph.

  • When dropping off in the morning, cars are permitted in the front parking lot to drop off only.

  • When dropping off in the morning or picking up in the afternoon, cars can be parked on Ridge Road or on Byron Place.  Please note that parking is only permitted on one side of the street.

  • The drop off zone in the front of the school is for children that can exit the car quickly, independently, and on the passenger side of the car only.  If your child requires any assistance during the morning drop-off, please park in the front parking lot and feel free to assist your child.

  • Children should only enter or exit on the passenger side of the car - use the curb side only.  Children should never walk in between or behind cars in the parking lot or drop off line.

  • Students should never be dropped off in the Staff Parking Lot. This is extremely dangerous.

  • Please observe the traffic rules for the safety of our children.  Any violations of traffic safety rules may be subject to ticketing by the Livingston Police Department.

  • If your car is parked on Ridge Road or Byron Place at dismissal, please note that K-turns are not permitted.
